JMB reported that Japanese integrated steel makers agreed price hike of steel plate by JPY 13,000 per tonne with domestic construction machinery for April to September 2011 shipment from October 2010 to March 2011 and the makers are closing on price hike by same range with domestic shipbuilders.
Large coal and iron ore suppliers are pressurizing steel makers to move to monthly from quarterly pricing, having shifted from yearly pricing a few years ago in a traditional tussle, in which the raw material producers seem to be having an upper hand.
The Deloittes report failed to include in its modelling the Gillard Government's proposed assistance to the iron, steel and coal industries, as well as the $10 billion Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
